I am Luke Sullivan,
a discus thrower. In 2007, I finished 15th at the USATF National Championships
in Indianapolis, IN. My seasonal best was 60.64 meters thrown at the
Salinas Invitational on May 16, 2007 . I threw at the 2004 U.S. Olympic
Team Trials in Sacramento, California, and placed 19th. This year, I
am hoping to achieve a top-5 U.S. ranking with a top-3 finish at the
Olympic Trials in July with the goal of making the 2008 Olympic team.
I threw discus, shot-put, and hammer at UCLA. I learned under the tutelage
of legendary throwing coach Art Venegas and trained with some of the
top throwers in the world.
In high school, I played three sports, including football, wrestling,
and track. Excelling at all three, I became an All-Area defensive tackle
in football, an All-State heavyweight wrestler, and was the nations
#1 prep discus thrower in 1994.
I was born on June 4th, 1976 in Keene, New Hampshire, but grew up in
the small town of Verona, Wisconsin. My father, Bill, runs a small lawn-care
service while my mother, Sharon, was a nurse for 33 years at St Mary's
Hospital in Madison. My brother, Josh, is currently finishing his English
degree at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
In September of 2006, I moved to Phoenix, AZ to train full time to prepare
myself to make the 2008 Summer Olympic Team. I am now being trained
by Dave Dumble, the head throws coach at Arizona State University. I
train daily with the world shot put champion, John Godina, Vince Mosca,
and Jeremy Silverman. The newest addition to our training group is American
Record holder in the javelin, Breaux Greer. I am looking for outstanding
things this year. I am in an ideal situation with coaching, training
partners and weather. I am looking forward to my best year to date!!!!!!
