Joe Frontier has been the Madison Memorial High School boys and girls throws coach since 2002. He has coached Spartan Throwers to 23 City Championships, 9 Big 8 Conference Championships, and 12 WIAA State qualifiers in shot put and discus in his six years at Memorial.
In 2003 Joe had his first Spartan claim a State Championship when Jenna Mahaffey won the shot put with a throw of 42'6". Jenna received a scholarship to Marquette University where she competed in the shot put, weight, discus and hammer throws.
In 2004, Joe brought 3 Spartans to the State Meet. He fell just shy of another champion, as Larry Ehrhorn's throw of 57'7" was good enough for runner-up in the boy’s shot put behind the state record holder from Green Bay Preble. Larry received a track scholarship to UW-Milwaukee in the shot put, weight, discus and hammer throws.
Joe takes great pride in helping throwers from all over Wisconsin take their skills to higher levels. While coaching at CLINICS and MADISON THROWS CLUB he has helped some of the best throwers at both the high school and college levels make the best throws of their careers. “For me its all about seeing kids compete at or above their potential in the event and sport that I love.” Coach Frontier
